Supposed to be the ‘ultimate goal’ of Magick, according to several systems of magick including Aleister Crowley, I am following up on Jeremy Crow’s video ‘The Holy Guardian Angel’s true identity revealed‘.
Jeremy explains with comparing to psychology, especially Jung, that the HGA can be explained as your ‘shadow’, what essentially protects you from what you (the ‘mind’) could not process at that time, for our own safety, and compares it to the archetype of the (commonly accepted role of) Satan, as keeper of Hell, and the damnes souls, demons, etc. who keeps everybody in. And explains further that our goal would be to make that Satan become Lucifer, bringer of light, to make those secrets come out of the dark and be available to us.
I will say it’s a pity if the goal of magick is just to discover a ‘NLP filter’, like someone in the comment of Jeremy’s article suggested. What about the idea of the ‘shadow self’ as your adverse persona? One of your true opposite, often depicted as something sinister or limited, part of the unconscious mind consisting of repressed weaknesses, shortcomings, and instincts.
Surely the ‘Knowledge and Conversation with your Holy Guardian Angel’ must be grander.
In the Golden Dawn tradition, the purpose of initiation is to achieve this, and ‘Perfect happiness, summum bonum’, i.e. happiness in the material world (Malkuth). I would say this is acheived by visiting your dark side and discovering all its hidden aspects, balance them, thus return with the stone of the wise, as in the rosicrucian/alchemical motto “Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem”.
So if you are feeling down, remember your shadow is opposite. The real discovery is that the integration between yourself and your shadow is always in perfect balance and in perfect happiness. Sometimes you cancel eachother out. Then you realise what potential lies within your close partnership.
